WORSHIP EMPHASES DURING MAY INTO JUNE
MAY – Signs of Grace in Us. Living, growing, and abiding in grace are those basic tenants of faith that foster a desire to grow in discipleship. These signs of grace are in us as the Holy Spirit works on our hearts through justifying grace, prevenient grace, sustaining grace, and sanctifying grace.
On May 2, Anniversary Day, M. Wade
Mays, SOSA Potato Project will be guest speaker.
Starting May 9, a
series of messages on this grace of God in us begins – “God
Going Before Me” is the sermon title, emphasizing “prevenient”
grace.
On May 16, a sermon on justifying grace will be offered
with the title – “Living Out Grace.”
Then on May 23,
Pentecost Sunday, our Confirmation Class is received into the
membership. The emphasis of God’s sustaining grace in the message
“Grace for Tough Times” is pertinent to this particular
Sunday. On the last Sunday of the month we learn that we are –
“Growing in Grace”- as the concept of sanctification is
presented.
JUNE – Apostolic Medallions. The sermons for this month are based on the medallion window at the northeast corner. A medallion is a figure in portrayed in the stained glass. Those Apostolic medallions are images of Pentecost, Peter and Cornelius, Paul at Athens, and stoning of Stephen. These become the message themes for the month of June into July, as we celebrate the Christian season of Pentecost. Look for sermons tied to these stained glass depictions in June:
“Pentecost Power”, Acts 2:1-8; 12-14; 29-38; “Not Many Martyrs”, Acts 6:8-15; 7:51-60.
